Exploring Ireland’s Wild Side: Cliffs of Moher, Galway & the Wild Atlantic Way

Having Irish family means there always an excuse to go back to Ireland. My Mexican girlfriend has always dreamt of going to Ireland after watching P.S I love you and it was my mission to show her how great the Emerald Isle really is. To make things a little easier I booked us onto a tour through “Get Your Guide”. This was a long day – approx 12/13 hours of coach travel, visiting various different spots around the Wild Atlantic way and the Cliffs of Moher.

This is place you want to go if you’re dreaming of rugged coastlines, dramatic cliffs, and charming Irish towns. This stunning stretch of coastline spans 2,500 km, offering some of the most breathtaking scenery in the world.

At the heart of it all? The Cliffs of Moher, the lively city of Galway, and countless hidden gems along the Wild Atlantic Way. Whether you’re a nature lover, history buff, or just in it for the road trip vibes.

For this tour we had to be up early to get our coach designated coach stop for all of these tours (as they are very popular) and we were on our way. Be aware that you will arrive and there will be what feels like hundreds of people, so it gets a bit chaotic finding which coach is yours.

Along the whole journey our amazing guide explained to us the history of Ireland, which made the kong coach journey a little more easy.

The first stop was the famous Barack Obama Plaza – a motorway service station that was visited by Obama as he has family from Ireland. For us this was just a place to grab some breakfast and toilet stop and hop back on the coach but for many the visit to take photos with the statue etc. Next stop – The Cliffs of Moher.

Views from the Cliffs of Moher, with two very cold but happy people 🙂

Arguably one of Ireland’s most famous landmarks, the Cliffs of Moher rise 214 meters (702 ft) above the Atlantic, stretching for 14 km (9 miles) along the County Clare coastline. Standing at the edge, with the wild ocean crashing below, you’ll feel like you’ve stepped into a scene from a postcard—or a movie (yes, they were in Harry Potter & The Half-Blood Prince!).

This is my second time visiting the Cliffs and well, every time I visit mother nature blesses me with mist or rain. This time is was rain and it was a little cold but it didn’t stop us form having a great adventure! There are plenty of cliff walks to do here, give the legs a good stretch and admire the amazing Cliff views. For those that don’t want to venture too far they also have the The Visitor Centre where you can learn about the geology, wildlife, and history of the cliffs in this eco-friendly, underground centre.

The centre does get quite busy and can be a bit overwhelming, especially when this is the only refuge from the rain and wind.

After our time at the cliffs we hopped back onto the coach and made our way towards the city of Galway (which is close to where my grandad is from so i always love visiting here). Alongside the way stopped at Burren National Park to take some stunning photos of the limestone pavement.

After a short 20 min stop here we continued and shortly arrived into Galway. Here we had a small tour with our guide and then we were given a few hours to wander the city, hit its shops, take in the sights, enjoy the many live street performers (which Galway is famous for) and of course grab a pint (or two) of Guinness. I wanted to show my girlfriend the Claddagh rings from this area as they are famous (I purchased a new one) and show her a small bit of Galway. Safe to say she really enjoyed it, although its a little cold in Ireland for a Mexican!

Many a Guinness and Irish coffees in Galways traditional pubs.

After a great day we hopped back onto the coach for a few hours drive back to Dublin. With all of the fresh air and adventures we both had a great nap!

If you are not wanting to drive any of the Ireland tours form Dublin are a must see and booking through Get Your guide made adventuring just a lot easier.
