Discover Bristol’s Best Mexican Spots: A Foodie’s Guide

Ready to spice up your blog with a mouthwatering tour of Bristol’s best Mexican spots? Here’s a vibrant roundup of my top 3 Mexican restaurants in Bristol as someone who has spent a lot of time in Mexico! All of these places are complete with signature dishes, a vibrant atmosphere and banging Margaritas!

Photos by Condesa

Inspired by Mexico City’s hip La Condesa district and located on Whiteladies Road, Condesa brings sleek, smoked-charcoal cooking and candlelit ambiance to the table – complete with a mesmerising “mezcal cave.” I have tried all of the maragaritas in here and this is my favourate place for this signature drink. The food in here is a Latin American fusion. Expect dishes like smoked pork tacos and elegant plates that ooze creativity. It is on the more expensive end of prpciing but the perfect place for a first date or a family gathering.

Why it stands out:

  • Refined and atmospheric Mexican fusion
  • Ideal for dinner dates or adventurous foodies
  • My favourite Margarita in Bristol so far!

2. El Diablo

A new place on Gloucester Road opened in November 2024 and a huge contender for the top spot. El Diablo stands out for bringing authentic Mexican flavours to Bristol and their Birria tacos are to die for. The menu melds classic and inventive offerings, while the vibe stays casual and vibrant – perfect for both hearty dinners and margarita-fueled get-togethers. The margaritas here were a little too sour for me (I prefer mine on the sweeter side). The staff were friendly and knowledgeable.

  • Best Birria tacos!
  • Really nice mix of foods.
  • Staff super friendly and good vibes.

In the heart of Old Market Street, Chido Wey is all about bold, fun, authentic Mexican vibes with a Cali twist. Think tacos, quesadillas, burritos, and tostadas – bright décor, quirky charm, and high-quality, locally sourced ingredients. This is a very small restaurant so booking is advised as it is always busy. In my opinion I think Chido Wey does the most authentic Mexican food I have eaten in Bristol and they are very decent portion sizes – so big that i had to take a taco home with me and it still tasted great the day after. I have yet to find anywhere in Bristol that does authentic nachos but their beef tacos were to die for!

Why it stands out:

  • Casual, colourful, and brimming with character
  • A go-to for lunch, casual dinners, and summer alfresco dining.
  • In my opinion the most authentic food I have experienced so far.

So, if you’re on the hunt for the best Mexican food in Bristol, three names really stand out. El Diablo on Gloucester Road delivers a buzzy cantina vibe with unforgettable tacos, margaritas, and plenty of vegan-friendly options. Over on Old Market, Chido Wey packs in bold flavours and quirky charm, making it the perfect spot for casual tacos and tostadas with friends. And for a more refined experience, Condesa on Whiteladies Road brings a smokey, atmospheric edge, complete with mezcal cocktails and elegant plates inspired by Mexico City’s vibrant food scene.

Whether you want street-style energy, colourful comfort, or sleek sophistication, these three restaurants prove that Bristol’s Mexican dining scene is hotter than ever.
